RANGITIKEI GOLF CLUB

NEW LINKS PURCHASED Thanks to the courtesy of Mr John Tricker, whose property has been placed at the use of the Rangitikei Golf Club for a number of years, a strong club has been built up here, and the memberships of the men’s and laides’ sections of the club have increased so rapidly of late hat steps had to be taken to provide an 18-hole golf course. Negotiations have been in train for some time, and on Monday evening matters came to a head, when the Rangitikei Golf Club completed the purchase of Mr A. M. Cook’s property, situated at the corner of Parewanui and Raumai Roads, about two miles from Bulls township. The property comprises about 115 acres, and a new house recently erect- 1 ed thereon will serve as an up-to-date clubhouse. Experts have inspected the course, and are very enthusiastic as to its possibilities, and it is expected that a 9-hole course will be ready for play at the beginning of next season. From information received, it appears that not only are members gratified at the prospect of expansion and improvement, but many new members will be joining next season. The committee and members are to be congratulated on their go-ahead policy, and there is every reason to look forward to the f uture of the club with a good deal of optimism, the new course being dry, with splendid undulating country, which will lend itself to improvement, placing it in the front rank of golf courses in New Zealand. GENERAL NEWS Messrs A. W. Amon and H. A. Signal have returned from Rotorua. The annual general meeting of the Bulls-Ohakea Sports Club will be held this evening. On Thursday evening the Parewanui School Committee will hold a dance in the Town Hall, Bulls, in aid of the school funds. Gedson’s Aces have been engaged, and a free bus will run from Marton. • Mr E. W. Wilson, who has been attached to the staffs of the Taranaki Daily News and Taranaki Herald for several years, has been appoined sports editor of the Manawatu Standard, and before leaving New Plymouth was the recipient of a fountain pen and propelling pencil from his newspaper confreres in North Taranaki. Weights for the Rangitikei Racing Club’s spring meeting appeared yesterday, and Mr Henrys appears to have framed them with his usual care and ability. Acceptances will close on Tuesday next, and the secretary will attend the Waverley meeting on Labour Day to interview owners and trainers. Last week the race tracks at Bulls were inspected, and they are in first-class order, the course proper being well grassed, level and smooth, while the plough gallop is also in good order. Arrangements for the meeting on Saturday, October 31, are well in hand, and judging by the requests for accommodation, fields should be large, and the attendance well above the average. *
