The Durie Hill Croquet Club has offered £25 towards the cost of providing croquet courts on the Durie Hill recreational reserve. Such offer was accepted by the City Council last night and authority to develop the reserve was given. There are to be two croquet courts, two tennis courts, an area for children to play on anti a pavilion, lhe whole scheme conforming to a plan drawn by the engineer. The Durie Hill Croquet Club is to have the right to use the two courts at a rental of £1 5s per annum and to maintain them and the borders surrounding them. Trafalgar Day Anniversary To-day is Trafalgar Day and marks the 131st. anniversary of Lord Nelson’s greatest and final victory. This momentous naval engagement was fought off Cape Trafalgar on the coast of Spain about 29 miles north of Gibraltar and it was here that Lord Nelson defeated the combined fleets of France and Spain under Villeneuve and two Spanish admirals. Lord Nelson was mortally wounded in the shoulder during the engagement and later was interred in St. Paul's Cathedral. It was during this battle that Lord Nelson hoisted aloft his famous message: "England expects that every man this day will do his duty.” A Record in Postings Miss Jean Batten possesses a sealed and addressea envelope which is unique (states the New Zealand Herald). She addressed it to herself and posted it in London by registered mail on October 5. She received It back just before she left England, and carried it with her to Australia. In Sydney she again posted it on the day of her arrival, October 13, and it was returned to Iler with the post mark of that day. Soon after her arrival In Auckland she posted it once more, and within 19 minutes a messenger delivered it to her with the post mark October 16. The reason the post office broke all records in the delivery ot the envelope is that the PostmasterGeneral (the Hon. F. Jones) heard of its several postings, and arranged tor !ts quick di-patch.
