FOR N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS GOLFERS AT NEW PLYMOUTH GOOD SCORES AT PRACTICE IPcr Press A-boclationl NEW PLYMOUTH. Oct. 19. Nearly all of the players for the New Zealand championships are already at headquarters and with the beautiful weather conditions over the week-end and again to-day they are more than pleased with the course and the arrangements made for the tournament. During the week-end the conditions could not have been better and the beautiful setting of the course, with the ocean on one hand and Mount Egmont on the other, calleu for admiration on all sides. Two notable absentees are T. H. Horton and B. V. Wright. The fairways are in excellent order, but the greens are holding. which , meant the downfall of many in to- ' day’s practices. The greens" will be close cut on Wednesday. Many good scores' were registered i and a brilliant 70 by Moss, the unattached professional, has brought i him into favouritism for the open. Hornabrook did a nice 74. He ' played lengthy tee shots and approached confidently, but lost strokes ' on the green. Shaw did 73 and 75. f The veteran A. D. S. Duncan was in good form in the morning with a 74. but dropped a few strokes in the afternoon. Bryan Silk took 76. while T. Weir, the young professional of New Plymouth, did 70. H. D. Brindsen. the young Aucklander, was right up to the top of his form with 71 and 72. J. Galloway, the professional of the ! Manawatu Club, found the greens to • his liking and completed the course in 74. His son. T. S. Galloway, with a 1 6, could not hold his putts, his Other work being of a high standard.
