Telegraph—Presa Association—Copyright] LONDON, Oct. 16. The High Commissioner tor New Zealand, Mr. W. J. Jordan, has sent the foliowing cable to Miss Batten: ‘‘New Zealanders in London, including my wife, join me in hearty congratulations on your magnificent success.” Mr. C. W. A. Scott says it was a splendid performance, but at present noi a commercial proposition. Mrs. Amy Mollison said: “It is a marvellous job. Jean must be congratulated on her great courage and skill. I wanted her to continue to New Zealand, but I would not have advised it.” Mr. Malcolm MacDonald (Dominions Secretary) has asked the Gov-ernty-General of New Zealand to convey a message of his personal congratulations to Miss Jean Batten.
N.Z. AERO CLUB PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Practically every aero club in New Zealand nas sent congratulatory messages to Miss Jean Batten, the president of the New Zealand Aero Club (Mr. C. Weinstein) said to-day, when he was asked to comment on her flight from England to New Zealand. He had sent a message of congratulation on behalf of the New' Zealand Aero Club, telling her how delighted members were at her safe arrival in New Zealand. The flight, he said, was the most magnificent one undertaken for years, and he was pleased that the machine had stood up to the test. He had never had any doubts about Miss Batten’s ability to make the journey as her powers of endurance*and nerve were never in doubt. She was also to be congratulated on having made the finest landfall to date. The flight had proved that, given the proper ground organisation and sufficient pilots, an air-mail service could be conducted between England and New Zealand in at least the time occupied for Miss Batten's flight. Such a mail service must come eventually, and he believed her flight would hasten its inauguration.
