The Republicans led by a slightly lower percentage in the first big city returns, which gave President Roosevelt New York, Philadelphia, and Pittsburg. The total figures to date are: Landon, 1,004,086; Roosevelt, 728,088. LABOUR REVIEW CANDIDATES’ RECORDS Received Oct. 18, 11.55 p.m. NEW YORK, Oct. 17. The American Federation of Labour made public yesterday the quadrennial pre-election report to 33,000 local unions and 110 national and international unions, adhering to its nonpartisan political policy, but calling on members to “stand faithfully by our friends and elect them.” The report found that Mr Roosevelt’s record from 1911, when a member of the New York State Senate to Presidential incumbency, was favourable to the cause of organised Labour. As a State senator he favoured 27 Labour mesaures. as Governor 21, and as President 47. Mr Landon s record as Kansas Governor was not given, but his acceptance speech was cited wherein he said he favoured Labour’s right to organise without interference from any source. A comparison of the two major parties’’ platforms showed that both had omitted mesaures advocated by Labour, including the shorter work-day and compensation for technological unemployment. Mr Garner’s 28-year record showed eleven votes favourable and 18 unfavourable to Labour.
