N.Z. COMMERCIAL SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT IN SYDNEY "UNCLE SCRIM” AND MISS D. WOOD. [Per Press Association! WELLINGTON, Oct. 16. Two appointments to executive positions in the New Zealand commercial broadcasting services are referred to in Wireless Weekly, Sydney, ot October 9. This journal names the Rev. C. G. Scrimgeour ("Uncle Scrim") as manager of the new service and Miss Dorothy Wood as programme director for New Zealand. The reference is as follows: — "A unique position for a woman will be held by Dorothy Wood in her appointment as programme director of the new New Zealand commercial service controlling stations at Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin. Miss Wood is to superintend the programmes of four stations of which "Uncle Scrim” is manager. Her first job will be to purchase an entire musical library for the stations, which will probably commence operation on November lat 2GB. For the past four years Miss Wood, in addition to broadcasting as a vocalist, accompanist and organist, and, for the past two months, deputising for “Auntie Vai,” has controlled a staff of five and a library of 18,000 records. She sails for New Zealand on the Awatea on October 23. "I’ll be getting well over £lO a week in my new job,” said Miss Wood. No announcement by the Government of these or any appointments to the commercial broadcasting service has been made in New Zealand. When statements concerning the Rev. Scrimgeour and Miss Wood were referred to-day to the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, as Minister of Broadcasting, he said that he had no statement to make in the meantime. The names of other Australians prominent in entertainment circles are being mentioned in association with the commercial broadcasting service.
