ITALIAN DEFENCE PLANS
MILLIONS FOR AERODROMES NOT A THREAT TO BRITAIN [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) ROME, Oct. 11. A Cabinet communique discloses that £15,000,000 will be devoted to the construction of additional aerodromes in Sicily, Sardinia, and elsewhere. When the new factories are added to the 1200 already working 60 hours per week, they will speed up the munitions production by 30 per cent. It is understood that front-line aircraft will be increased by 1500, mostly bomber.*, before the end of the year. Several dozen naval units are being constructed. Twenty battalions of Black Shirts are being enrolled to replace the troops at present in Abyssinia. Despite suggestions that the intensification of rearmament is in reply to Britain, official circles declare that it must not be interpreted as a threat, or even as a warning, to other Powers. The Anglo-Italian commercial agreement is now being drafted.
