WEATHER FORECAST
.Meteorological Office, Wellington, Monday, Oct. 12, 4 p.m. General Situation.—The last of the recent series of westerly depressions passed eastwards during Sunday night, but a secondary has since developed, the centre of which is located west of the Cook Strait area to-day. An anti-cyclone covers Australia and extends on to the Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Winds: Variable at first in the southern half of the South Island, otherwise southerly prevailing, force moderate to strpng but gradually decreasing. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rather rough to rough north of Farewell Spit and between Banks Peninsula and Castlepoint, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong but decreasing southerly winds, seas moderate to rather rough. Weather: Cold and unsettled with scattered and mainly light rain but heavy falls probable in parts of the central districts. Snow on some of the ranges. Conditions improving gradually to-morrow, however, in most districts. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 2 hours 40 minutes. Rainfall, .31 inches. Shade temperature: Maximum, 58deg. Fahr.; minimum, 48deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 6.38 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 5.36 a.m. Phases of the moon for October: Full moon, October 1. Last quarter, October 8. New moon, October 15. First quarter, October 24.
