SUM OF £18,436 FOR DEFENCE ERADICATION OF RAGWORT £lO,OOO FOR B RADIO STATIONS ALLOWANCE OF £lOOO FOR SIR J. PARR [Per Press Association J WELLINGTON, Oct. 8. The Supplementary Estimates introduced to the House to-day include a vote of £18,436 for defence, £5OOO being in connection with aerodromes. A sum of £41,000 is provided in the Department of Agriculture for eradication of ragwort. A special allowance of £lOOO is to be paid to Sir James Parr because of his early’ retirement from the High Commissionership. Provision of £lO,OOO has been made for the purchase and maintenance of B radio stations. The cost of the 40-hour week in the working of the railways means a vote of £316,000. An additional sum of £125,000 is provided for old-age pensions. A sum of £50,000 is provided for the Lewis Pass Road, Canterbury, and £12.500 for the road from Bruce Bay to Haast in South Westland.
