DISASTROUS DAY
INVESTORS AT OTAKI. DEFEAT OF DEFICIT. At Otaki on Saturday a most disastrous day for investors was brought to a close with the success of the rank outsider Royal Bengal in the Hema Te Ao Handicap. Royal Bengal went to the front at the start and was never caught, going on to score by a couple of lengths from Snowball. Royal Bengal, now nine years old, had not won a race for over twelve months. He was given a trial over hurdles in the winter, but was a failure at that game. Lately he has been accepted for several meetings without being produced, but probably his owner-trainer, W. H. Corlett, was waiting for such a track as Saturday’s. Snowball was on the winner’s quarters to the straight, but the outsider then left her. Jubilee Song finished on best of the others for a fair third after being out on the track all the way. Full Throttle came through from the back to be fourth. Deficit failed in the going, dropping out after going up to third before the straight.
