GIRL GUIDES At a meeting of the committee of the Patea Girl Guides, Mrs T. A. i Prescott presiding, Miss Agnes Kuh-1 fuss’ resignation as Brown Owl, owing! to pressure of work, was received with regret, the committee placing on record its appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the troop by Miss Kuht’uss. Mrs Simmons’ donation of £1 towards the funds was received with grateful thanks. Miss Tui Gibson wrote thanking, the committee for its expression of] sympathy in her recent bereavement. Mrs Prescott reported on the meeting of the Taranaki executive of ■ Girl Guides, at which she was dele-j gate, stating the meeting had been! successful, and useful work had been I done. I ALTON METHODIST CHURCH The Methodist Church trustees at Alton met last week, with Rev. Patcliett as chairman. Mr T. M. Robins was elected a new trustee. Messrs F. Metcalfe, F. Olliver ano T. Robins, junr., consented to canvass the district for subscriptions towards renovations to the church, which had previously been discussed, ana a working bee arranged for next year to paint the building. Mr F. Sutherland’s resignation as. secretary and treasurer was received with regret, the chairman expressing sincere thanks to Mr Sutherland for his 20 years’ faithful service. In replying, Mr Sutherland said his position had been made easy by the friendly co-operation of his fellow trustees, and although resigning from an official position, he would still give his service as a trustee. Mr T. Robins, junr., was elected to the vacancy. PERSONAL Mr and Mrs V. Shutte have left to reside in Hamilton, where Mr Shutte has been transferred to the Bank of New South Wales. Mr S. A. Priest has commenced duties at the Bank of New South Wales. Mr and Mrs S. Jensen, who hav& been the guest of Mr and Mrs W. D. Davies, have returned to Palmerston North. Mrs C. E. Dalton has returned to Auckland after visiting Mrs E. F. Hemingway. Mrs M. MacFarlane is visiting Ashhurst. Mrs L. Honeyfield entertained at bridge on Monday evening. Special services were held in the Anglican Church, Patea, last Sunday, in commemoration of the ordination of Mr E. O. Sheild, B.A. (London), who was ordained Deacon by the Lord Bishop of Manchester, in the Manchester Cathedral on Sunday. Mr Sheild will assist in the parish of the Holy Innocents, Fallowfield, near Manchester.
