’"P'illl policy which Japan has decided to pursue in the purchase of her wool supplies has resulted in the situation which was anticipated in this column when the decision was made known, namely, that the concentration of Japanese competition on other markets than that, of Australia has brought about a rise in the cost of the staple to Japan. With the improvement in Japan’s economy there will be a demand for improved pay by factory operatives. Added thereto will be increases in taxation. These create sufficiently serious problems already and the textile manufacturers can be sympathised with when lib erty of purchase in their most favourable market is. denied.
