MARTON STOCK SALE
FARMERS’ CO-OP. REPORT. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report a yarding of approximately 1000 sheep, 60 head of cattle and 130 pigs at Marton There was a large attendance of the public and an excellent all-round sale resulted. The sheep entry comprised principally hoggets with several pens of fat ewes, and the hoggets elicited keen competition and were practically all purchased by outside buyers. Fat ewes were slightly easier than previous sale. In the cattle section the fat cows sold exceptionally well and also dairy he ; fers. In fact, all dairy sorts showing quality were firm on recent sales. The over-supply ol pigs caused the market to ease some - what. but practically everything in the yard was sold. We quote:—Good ewe hoggets to 38s 3d; small ditto, to 27s 6d; b.f. ewe hoggets, 255; best wether hoggets, 25s 3d; b.f. ditto. 23s to 23s lOd; fat ewes, extra prime, to 325; prime ditto, 29s 6d to 31s 3d; fat wether* 36s 6d; prime fat cows, £6 Is, £6 lG’s to £7 2s; good medium sorts, to £5 15s; forward cows, ex dairy, £3 2s to £3 17s; best dairy heifers, £7 7s 6d to £8 ss; good medium sorts, £5 12s 6d to £6; backward sorts, £4 to £4 10s; best dairy cows, to £7 10s; others, £4 10s to £5 10s; late cal vers. £2 15s to £4. Best weaner pigs, to 225; good medium, 16s to 18s; others, 12s to 14s 6d; slips, to 265; good stores, to 355; porkers, £2; breeding sows, to £3 10s.
