WEDDINGS

MARTIN—CROTHERS A very pretty wedding, celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on September 5, was that of Helen Stuart, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Crothers, of Muir Street, Gonville, and Raymond Allan, only son of Mr. D. Martin and the late Mrs. R. H. Martin, of Oakland Avenue, St. John's Hill. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Brice. In her lovely gown or silver lame, the bride presented a charming picture as she entered the church escorted by her father. The frock was cut on slim-fitting lines with long train, high neckline finished with faggoting and a silver flower on the corsage. The veil of tulle was held in place by a chaplet of orange blossoms and silver leaves, and silver shoes were worn. A bouquet of pink roses, freesias, hyacinths and maidenhair fern completed an attractive toilette. The bridesmaids were Miss Marjory Gordon, cousin of the bride, Miss Winnie Martin, sister of the bridegroom and Miss Mollie McKillop. They were dressed alike in becoming frocks of coralee pink embossed georgette cut on slim-fitting lines with skirts forming small trains. The bodices were gathered at the shoulder line to the neck and trimmed with silver lame. The long full sleeves were gathered in at the wrist and trimmed with lame. In their hair they wore bands of pink flowers and silver leaves and they carried bouquets of Iceland poppies, freesias and polyanthus in shades to tone with their frocks. The wee flower girl, Barbara Cleeve, wore a dainty long frock in the same shade as those of the bridesmaids. Tiny frills trimmed the neckline, hem and sleeves and her little poke bonnet was finished with lace to tone, and she carried a silver basket of Iceland poppies and freesias. Mr. Pat Koorey carried out the duties of best man and the groomsmen were Mr. Terence McCashin and Mr. Brian Currie, of Wanganui. The reception following was held at the Royal Willows, where about 200 guests were entertained. To receive her guests. Mrs. Crothers wore a blue ensemble and hat, the frock being of lace with three-quarter coat to match on which was pinned a spray of orchids and freesias. Mrs. Martin, stepmother of the bridegroom, wore a navy blue georgette ensemble with hat and shoes to tone, and a shoulder spray of orchids and freesias. After the reception the guests enjoyed a dance in the Luxor Hali. When the bride and bridegroom left for a tour of the North Island, the bride travelled in a brown taffeta frock, brown hat with eye-veil, fur coat and accessories to tone.
