POLICE AND PRESS

ZANCE again the public has accorded excellent support to the Police and Press effort. This movement, which was started in Wanganui, has been followed in other parts of the Dominion; and, as°in this city, deserving charities have been financially benefited. But it is not altogether the monetary advantage accruing from these efforts which makes them worth while, it is the splendid spirit of co-operation which they engender. In Wanganui the Police-Press Day is a day-out for the City, when nothing very serious is considered and when the citizens join in good fellowship and jollity. The original purpose was to provide funds for the unemployed, but. although the need for this is now not so pressing, the spirit of comradeship which prompted the movement, in its early stages has remained with it and was much in evidence on Saturday.
