A STABLE “DOUBLE”
VELOCIPEDE AND TRIUNE AVONDALE CUP AND FLYING AIWAI SCORES IN SPRINT [Per Press Association] AUCKLAND, Sept. 19. The Avondale Jockey Club’s spring meeting opened to-day in fine weather before a good attendance. The track was in excellent order. The totalisator handled £31,073 10s, against £24,104 on the first day last year, an increase of £6969 10s. The Avondale Cup winner, Velocipede, returned a dividend of over a score, and Lady Diana won the Henderson Handicap to return over a third of a century. Results:— MAIDEN PLATE. Tradesman was in front early from Velocipede, Scotland, Tea Hai, King Musk and Tybalt, with the order practically the same along the back. At the turn Tradesman led from Kuight of Australia, Velocipede, Silver Brier, Lord Vai, Scotland and Mazir, Velocipede going through to win by a neck from Mazir, with Knight of Australia a neck away third. May Song and Debham led early but Anion went to the front along the top and was never headed, to win by one and a-quarter lengths from Debham, with Queen Nona a head away, third. May Song was fourth.
