MARRIAGES IN N.S.W.

RECORD FOR HALF-YEAR SYDNEY, Sept. 18. The number of marriages for New South Wales for the six months ended June 30 (11,511) was the highest on record for a half-yearly period. The number of marriages in Victoria was smaller than in New South Wales, but the proportion to population was greater. A message from Melbourne this week stated that the number of marriages in Victoria in the six months ended June 30, namely, 8224, was the highest on record. The Government Statistician said that the improvement on the corresponding period last year, when the number was 7717, was probably due to the revival of industry and the better financial outlook throughout Australia.
