RUGBY FOOTBALL A friendly match between the Huia Football Club and Ngamatea was played at Taihape last Saturday and resulted in a win for Huia by 11 points to 6. For the winners tries were scored by Berryman, Rangi Chase, and Hape. R. Chase converted one try, Murphy kicked a penalty goal for Ngamatea. and Campbell scored a try. Mr. J. Ormond was referee.
The attendance was very poor indeed and showed that interest in football at this late stage in the season is decidedly on the wane. The teams were as follow: Huia (red and black).—T. Chase, Berryman, R. Chase, Steedman, Hekenui, Raukawa, Payne, B. Pine, E. Chase, Winiata. Paranihi, McCarthy, Thompson, Hape, Wereta. Ngamatea (blue).—A. Murphy, Keong, Mattson, Burtt, Isaacson, Bayliss, Wallace, Sullivan, Symons, Cooper, Stevens, Scott, Everett, Campbell, Elliott. GENERAL NEWS At. a meeting of shop assistants held on Monday evening a resolution was passed in favour of a Saturday halfholiday. Mr. H. Cooper occupied the chair and there was an attendance of about 40 persons. The meeting was not open to the Press, but it is understood that 39 out of the 40 present were in favour of changing the halfholiday to Saturday. The second qualifying round of the championships of the Taihape Ladies’ Golf Club, which were postponed last week on account of the inclement weather, will now be played tomorrow and Saturday. the: majestic “NEVADA.” Zane Grey's stories have been film highlights for many years, and his latest effort, “Nevada,” is no exception. It has been dramatised by Paramount, and with Larry “Buster” Crabbe, Kathleen Burke, Monte Blue and Raymond Hatton, comes to the Majestic Theatre to-morrow. The colourful cattle country is the setting of “Nevada.” There, Crabbe, as a cowpuncher, becomes involved with a cattle-rustling outfit, learns all about their plans and is ready to expose them when he himself is wrongly accused of being the mysterious leader of the rustlers. Woven into this adventure story is the romance that takes place between Crabbe and tlie daughter of the richest rancher in the country. There are many spectacular scenes in “Nevada,” in which fast riding and exciting round-ups are features.
