TOWN BOARD MEETING. 1 | The monthly meeting of the Town I Board was held on Thursday even- I ing. Present; Messrs J. E. Walker, I D. A. Lundy, J. J. Manseii, F. A. Iloilo.l, A. W. Amon and C. Howard leponed on ; work uone during the month as follows: Metalled loot pa th in Church St. and roadway in Hammond St.; repaired fence at old metal pit. Patched main roads with cold-fix, and cleaned weeds off Criterion and Bridge St. footpaths. Ploughing has been done and grass mowed on Domain. Metal has been taken down in pit. Dug new drain in Cemetery Road and mowed paths at cemetery. A discussion ensued re rubbish collection in the township, and the foreman’s hours were readjusted to enable him to lake rubbish on Saturday mornings, as formerly. Building Permits. —The following being in order, permits were granted to the following: A. G. Mclndoe, a cottage for H. Coe; R. M. Mclntosh, a building on the site of Clifton Hall; R. Kemp, additions to J. Shepherd’s garage; and R. Kemp, alterations to E. Coleman’s residence. Transfer of property from M. C. Gould to H. R. Wilson and W. N. Watson was approved. Correspondence. —From the Department of Labour, giving award rates of pay for local body employees. —Received. From the Municipal Association, supplying counsel’s opinion on questions raised by the Whangarei Borough Council. —Received. Finance. —Accounts were passed for payment under the following headings: District Fund £lB7 15s 3d; Library £3 ss; Domain 12s 6d. Collections for the month were shown as follows: Rates £7B 5s 4d; rents £2B 3s 6d; drivers’ licences £2 ss; heavy traffic licences £7l 16s 6d; library subs. £2 9s 6d; library rent £2; Domain £1 15s 6d. Total £lB6 15s 4d. Speed Limits—As lorries and cars were still travelling through the township at speeds greatly in excess of 30 m.p.h., it was resolved to ask the Wanganui Automobile Association to erect signs laying down the speed limit. Works Committee. —Messrs. Mansell, Price and Amon were appointed to act for the ensuing month. GENERAL NEWS. On Thursday, Sept. 17, a dance and card party in aid of the Parewanui school funds will be held in Bulls Town Hall. Gedson’s Aces have been engaged and free buses will run from Marton and Palmerston. The high standard set by the Parewanui School Committee will be maintained at, the function, which is sure to prove a great attraction. BULLS R.S.A. The committee of the Bulls R.S.A. met at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Churchill in Rongotea on Wednesday evening. The president, Mr. H. V. Bond, was in the chair, and there were also present: Messrs, S Rich, O. H. Grut, H. H. C. Holland. J. H. Ellery, W. A. Churchill, H. O. D. Clark, G. Richardson, F. Ellery, W. A. Sutherland, E. Gennills, and an apology was received from Mr. R. J. K. Gray. Arrangements were finalised for a ladies’ evening on Sept. 22, the supper arrangements being placed in the hands of Mr. Holland. This time euchre will be played, and it is hoped that returned men will roll up in good numbers. It was reported that only one man was now on the unemployed list. The meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the chair and to the host and hostess. RANGITIKEI LADIES’ GOLF CLUB The finals of the ladies’ championships were played yesterday afternoon in dull, windy weather, Miss C. Wilson defeating Mrs Dixon in the senior grade, 3 and 1; and Miss Perrett defeating Mrs Lawrence in the junior, 6 and 5. Miss Wilson and Mrs Dixon had a great tussle. Both were out in 44, Miss Wilson being then 1 up. Mrs Dixon squared the match at the 13th., but Miss Wilson won the next two holes. The 16th. was halved, and Miss Wilson won the 17th. and the match. In the junior grade Mrs Lawrence beat Mrs Russell, 2 and 1; and Miss Perrett defeated Miss P. Levett, 7 and 6. In the final Miss Perrett proved superior to Mrs Lawrence, winning on the 13th. green.
