AUSTRALIAN WINNERS MEN'S AND WOJIEN’S EVENTS THICK WEATHER PREVAILS [P?r Tress Association] THE CHATEAU, Aug. 28. The New Zealand men's and women's slalom championships were held on the course to the west of Scoria Flat, Ruapehu, to-day. In spite of the exceedingly thick weather it was deemed essential to decide the races owing to the numerous postponements. Snow fell practically throughout and visibility was very bad. Th Australian visitors proved victorious in both events. T. W. Mitchell, winner of the men's event, had won the New Zealand slalom championship twice previously and gave a brilliant performance in making two descents of the difficult course at great speed without a fall. Miss D Tickle, women’s slalom champion of Australia, hurt, her hack in a fall in the first run and withdrew. The will probably be able to compete in the inter-Dominion event. Results are:— Men's Slalom. —T. W. Mitchell (Australia). Imin. 50 l-ssee. for two descents. 1: Stogdale (Australia'. 2min. 7 4-ssec.. 2; A. Wigley (Tasman Ski Club). 2min. 19 4-ssec.. 3. The next best times were: B. Murphy (Ruanehu Ski Club), 2min. 21 l-ssec.: B. McMillan (Stratford Mountain Club). 2min. 24 4-ssec: C. Wyatt (Ski Club of Great Britain). 2min. 28 2-ssec.; H. R. Wigley (Tasman Ski Club), 2min. 57 3-ssec.: J. D. Murphy ' (Ruanehu Ski Club). 2min. 59 4-ssec.; W. Myhre (Christchurch Ski Club), 1 3niin. 9 4-ssec.; S. H. Tilbury (Rua- ; pehu Ski Club). smin. 22sec. Fourteen completed the two runs. Women's Slalom. —Miss P. Farquahrson (Auslralia), 2min. 28 3-.5 sec. ofr two descents, 1; Miss J.
