WEDDINGS

POWELL—YOUNG A wedding of interest to Wanganui and the Hunterville district took place yesterday afternoon, when Jean Lorraine, youngest daughter of Mrs. Young and the late Mr. J. A. Young, of Durie Hilfi Wanganui, was married to Sidney Swinburne, youngest son of Mrs. Powell and the late Mr. C. J. Powell, of Hunterville. The ceremony, which took place at the home of the bride’s mother, Allison Street, was performed by the Rev. J. W. Parker. Fragrant violets, daffodils and other spring flowers were effectively arranged in the rooms, and in the hall were large bowls of rhododendrons. The bride looked most attractive in a smart two-piece suit of navy cloque, slim-fitting with short peaked sleeves on the frock, which was finished with smart lines of fine white piping on the bodice, and a row of white satin buttons ending at the neckline with a double white posy of the new cire silk straw, with leaf petals of georgette and straw surrounding the flowers. From under the waist-length coat, with its long sleeves, peeped a smart suede belt in Venetian red, fastened with a pretty buckle. A double white posy and a stiffened veil adorned her wide-brimmed baku straw hat and she wore blue kid gauntlet gloves, blue suede shoes and held a large posy of red carnations, anemones and maidenhair fern with red streamers. The bride was given away by her brother, Mr. L. C. Young. After the ceremony the guests were entertained in the drawing room where a dainty buffet afternoon tea was served, the large wedding cake centering the table. Toasts were proposed by Mr. F. Webb-Jones and the Rev. J. W. Parker, and a number of congratulatory telegrams were received. The bride's mother, Mrs. J. A. Young, wore a blue floral frock, blue silk marocain coat and ballibuntal straw hat. Mrs. Powell, mother of the bridegroom, wore a black ensemble and black hat with touches of white. When Mr. and Mrs. Powell left for their honeymoon tour, the bride donned a navy blue boucle coat with fur collar and wore a small felt hat. Their future home will be in Huntervine. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. J. Powell (Masterton), Mrs. C. J. Powell and Miss Olive Powell (Hunterville), Mrs. London, Mr, and Mrs. F. Webb-Jones, Mrs. Ellison. Miss G. Wilton (Huntervi'le), Mr. and Mrs. Wellard, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Young, Miss Lorraine Young, Mr. and Mrs. P. Russ, Misses Ridd and J. Rankin, Mr. R. Smart.
