JUBILEE SINGER

WINNER AT MOOREFIELD COLT’S SPLENDID RECOVERY So badly injured was Jubilee Singer on. a boat on the way from New Zealand \ Sydney that it was feared he would have to be destroyed, states the Sydney Sun. However, the colt made a splendid I recovery and on Saturday, August 15. scored his first win in the second division of the Three-year-old Handicap -j at Moorefield. The colt was bought by Jack Cush t at the New Zealand sales two years ago for 500gns., but while on his way to Sydney one of his near tendons I was badly hurt. A piece of bone was ? taken out of his leg, and for several ' months he was under vet. treatment. Gradually the colt improved, and Cush decided to race him. The colt , had done nothing out of the ordinary in his work, but evidently he is better in a race than in private, as he was heavily backed. As much as 5 to 1 was laid against him, but so much money was invested on him that he ousted Elvius from favouritism. One bet laid against him was £350 to £lOO. Jubilee Singer’s supporters were not on good terms with themselves in the 5 early furlongs. The colt did not com- • mence smartly, and was a long way 1 back at the half-mile. 1 However, he commenced a fast run ' ascending the hill and although he ? came out wide entering the straight, he had the race won opposite the St. Leger.
