A strong gale and showers piovided a. searching test in the women s golf championships. Miss Hutton (Victoria), with 81, had the best lound. She played steadily and handled the wind well. She was out in 42 and home in 39. i Mrs. Clements had a brilliant 38 lout but. crashed . comi.>g home and took 44. Miss Kay was strong in the long game and was out in 42 and home In 141. She dropped strokes in putting | and approaching. Mrs. FullertonSmith was out in 42. She recorded sixes at two holes and was unlucky with putts- She ha.d a home run of I 41. Miss Fleming drove indifferently and her approaches were weak. She I took 44 each way. | Miss Helean had a brilliant, burst at I the start, and was square with fours i for five holes She hit. the pin at the 1 sixth and bounced into a bunker, taking six. This rattled her a little. She look 42 out and 45 in. including two I sixes and a seven. Miss Horwell was lout of touch on the greens and also lin approaching. Her scores were 44 ; and 46.
