HITLER’S ARMY
New Mobilisation Laws ALL GERMAN YOUTH FORMIDABLE NATION (By Telegraph—Press Association-—Copyright)’ BERLIN, Aug. 25. ! Herr Hitler is summoning the Reichstag to meet at Nuremberg during the Nazi Congress from September 8 to 14 to pass l:»ws mobilising the entire German youth. It is expected that the education of the young will be taken from the hands of parents and that boys will receive semi-military training and girls be taught home, agricultural, and nursing duties to fit them for efficient motherhood. All are liable to the new laws, irrespective of class. The new laws, taken in conjunction ' with the extension of military service, will make Germany the most formid-ably-organised nation in the world. The church question is also likely to be discussed at Nuremberg. Ministry of Youth Possible The youth mobilisation shares many of the features of the Italian Balila, and concerns itself with moral and physical training without class distinction. A possible companion measure is the creation of a Ministry of Youth under Herr Baldur von Schirach, the present Hitler Youth leader. The new plans provide for the introduction of ail fit boys into “The Young Folk” at the age of 10 years, and then into the Hitler Youth at 14. They will enter the Storm Troops and the Labour Service Army from 18 and finally will be drafted into the various parly organisations. “OIL ON THE FLAMES” REPLANNING OF FRENCH ■ DEFENCES PARIS, Aug. 25. M. Fabry,* the former Minister of : War, says: “Germany's further rearmament measures will necessitate total reorganisation of the French defences. It is disquieting that Herr ' Hitler, unrestrained by the anxiety the Spanish war is causing in Europe, is throwing oil on the flames.” It is unlikely that the French period of conscription will be increased to re- ' taliate against the German extension, but certainly everything will be done to give full value to the Franco-Rus-sian Pact. France’s peacetime army strength is now 605,000, of whica ' 200,000 would be required tor colonial service if war broke out, and the remainder w.'Ukl therefore be less than half Germany's new peacetime army. 1
