HITHER AND THITHER

“Welcome Home’’ Party. A very jolly partly, hostessed by Mrs. A. J. Pritchard and Mrs. 1. Howell, and held at the latter’s home, was given last week to welcome home Mrs. W. M. Gdlies, who recently returned from a long holiday in Australia. The guests enjoyed competitions and dancing. Gift Party. Mrs. L. C. Young was hostess at a gift party on Saturday afternoon in honour of her sister-in-law, Miss Jean Young, whose marriage will take place this week. The party was held at Mrs. Young's home, Carlton Avenue, and her daughter, Miss L. Young, helped Her to entertain. Vases of fragrant violets and spring flowers decorated the room. Each guest brought along a gift for the bride-to-be and a beautiful collection of things for her future home was revealed when Ihe parcels were opened. On her arrival, Miss Young was presented with a bouquet of violets. Two difficult competitions caused much racking of brains, Mrs. Barnes winning the first competition and Miss J. Rankin the second. A most enjoyable afternoon tea was served. The guest of honour expressed her thanks to the guests for their lovely gifts. Children's Garden Circle. Another successful evening was held in the W.D.F.U. rooms on Thursday evening last, over a hundred being present, which testified to the popularity of these evenings, the usual Hag “500" was played till 10 o’clock and after supper dancing was indulged in till the midnight hour. Messrs. Geo. Todman and Ralph Walker rendered two items on the banjo, being accompanied by Miss RJ. Todman, a young C.G.C. member. These items were thoroughly appreciate, and the C.G.C. committee tender their sincere thanks. The prize-winners were as loilow: Most games: Mrs. Elmers. Winning table. Mesdames Baker, Guthrie, Hunwick, and Mr. Robinson. Losing table: Mesdames Harper, Marshall, Whale, Dennis. Least games: Mr. Bason. The Monte Carlo dances were won by Mrs. Bason and Mr. Frederick, and Mrs. Wood and Mr. Durant. Bowling Club Social. The Gonville Bowling Club held its usual weekly social on Saturday night in the Masonic Hall, when there was a large attendance of patrons and friends. The winners of the “500" prizes were Mrs. Shipman and Mr. Symonds, consolations being awarded to Mrs. Larkin and Mrs. Marchant. After supper dancing was indulged in until midnight. The winners of the Monte Carlo dance were Mrs. Chenery and Mr. Beard. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Christensen, Mr. and Mrs, Chenery, Mr. and Mrs. Stenton, Mr. and Mrs. Wadham, Mr. and Mrs. Lowe, Mr. and Mrs. Ruffe, Mr. and Mrs. Owles, Mr. and Mrs. Symonds, Mr. and Mrs. Rowntree, Mr. and Mrs. Shipman, Mr. and Mrs. Ferris, Mr. and Mrs. Larkin, Mr. and Mrs. Thurlow, Mr. and Mrs. Morton, Mr. and Mrs. Berryman, Mr. and Mrs. Taylor; Mesdames Young, Guthrie, Wilton, Hodges, Hunwick, McMillan, Marchant, Forbes, McDonald, Kemp, Winter, Norris. Neverman, Allen, Green, Lynch, Hampton, Ayling, Matthews, Gilberd, Stephens, Tate, Baker, Fyfe; Misses Young (2), Dillon, Morrison, Atkins, Ayling, Christensen, Lynch, Chenery, Hodges, Berryman; Messrs.
