NO MORE WAR
; IF DEAD COULD RETURN BALDWIN’S IMPRESSIVE WORDS. LONDON, July 29. t “If the dead could return there I would be no more war,” was Mr. » Stanley Baldwin’s dramatic declara- , tion to the Canadian ex-soldiers I assembled at Westminster Hall s upon their return from the pil- ” grimage to Vimy. "You all tasted the : bitter cup of war but the dead drained 3 it to the dregs and would never allow the younger generation to taste it. Many of our troubles are due to the fact that we lost our best men in the war. If the world can find no way of settling disputes except by war when we are still finding and burying the bodies of those who fell 20 years ago, then the world deserves to perish.” An impressive silence followed Mr. Baldwin’s closing worfis. The vast gathering was deeply rloved. It then burst out in terrific cheering and the soldiers filed out to visit the Cenotaph.
