Mr. E. H. Coon, of Toronto. Canada, is a visitor to Wanganui and is staving at the Rutland Hotel. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. W. M. Luxlord. of Wanganui East, was passed al last night’s meeting of the executive of the Union Boat Club. Mr L. C. M. Saunders, organist and choirmaster of St. Barnabas' Church, Fcndalton, will leave Christchurch in •September to take up the position of musical director at St. John's College Auckland. Mr. S. R. McCallum, of Wanganui, has been elected a vice-president of the New Zealand Numismatic Society, which has its headquarters in Wellington and of which Sir James Elliott is president. Mr H. V. Steele, who has for the last four years been accountant in the Wellington branch of the Bank of New South Wales, has been promoted io a position in the head office of the bank at Sydney. He has been succeeded at Wellington by Mr H. S. Vine, from the chief inspector's staff. Sydney. Mr S. Ringer, inspector of the Automobile Association (Auckland), is at present in Wellington in course of his annual tour of the North Island for the purpose of the revision of Automobile Association publications. Mr Ringer was accompanied from Levin by Mr P. Donnelly, chief service officer of the Automobile Association ' Wellington >. Messrs. R. Cuthbertson. 11. Quarterman and H. Manguson, of Wanganui, will leave early next week to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Gun Clubs’ Association at Christchurch on August 8. Mr. Cuthbertson wil be the Wanganui delegate and Messrs. Quarterman and Manguson will represent Taihape and Waverley respectively. The Rev. \V. Pascoe-Goard, L.L.D., F.R.G.S., F.R.E.S.. clergyman of the Congregational Church, author, lecturer. traveller, and Imperialist, will arrive at Wellington by the Aorangi an August 4 on a tom of New Zealand. He will lecture in Wanganui on August 10. Dr. Goard’s name is a household word in Britain. Canada, and America, and his coming to Wanganui is being awaited with much interest. Earlier in the present year, Dr. Pascoe-Goard was the speaker at a luncheon held at Southampton. At this gathering, where his address aroused intense interest, there were present the Consuls of U.S.A.. Norway. Sweden. Denmark. Holland. Finland and Esthonia, together with the Mayor and Councillors, the full Chamber of Commerce, ministers of religion, etc. Dr Goard will arrive In Wanganui on the morning of August 10. He will address the Rotary Ciuh at mid-day. will be accorded a civic reception at 3 o’clock and will lecture, as advertised. In the evening, and leave for New Plymouth the following day.
rhe Rev. W. F. Stent has been appointed Government representative on the New Zealand Poultry Board. Mr C. T. Asehman has been reelected chairman of the Canterbury University College Council, and Mr A. E. Flower has been elected deputychairman. The Hon. C. J. Carrington (Auckland) was granted four days’ leave of absence on account of illness, when the Legislative Council met yesterday afternoon.
