MAJESTIC THEATRE
“ROBIN HOOD OF ELDORADO.’ A colourful drama of old California in the days of the gold rush is presented in the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Him, “Robin Hood of Eldorado,” which is to conclude its Wanganui season at the Majestic Theatre to-night. Warner Baxter gives one of his most attractive characterisations in the part of the dashing Joaquin Murrieta, a laughing peon, whose happiness is destroyed by the brutality of American gold miners. How he organises an army of outlaws and raids the mining camps, plundering their gold and leaving a trail of terror in his wake, makes thrilling entertainment. The portrayal of the principal figure, Spring I Davis by Lionel Barrymore is, perhaps, one of the finest that this actor has played. “The Voice of Bugle Ann’ is based on an actual court case in Missouri, and tells the story of a veteran Missouri fox hunter and his favourite dog, with a marvellous bugle voice, to avenge which ne kills a man and goes to prison. The cast includes Maureen O’Sullivan and Eric Linden, who play the young lovers of rival families; also Dudley Digge;, Spring Byington, Charley Grapewin. Henry Wadsworth, Wm. Newell, James Macklin, Jonathan Hole, and Frederick Hale.
