FAREWELL GATHERING

I PRESENTATION TO MINISTER In view of their approaching departure for Stratford, the Rev. J. Paterson, M.A., of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, and Mrs. Paterson have been entertained at several farewell functions. On Thursday evening at St. Paul's Hall a social was given by the St. Pauls, Campbell Street, and St. John's Hill Bible Classes, when the time was happily spent in games and competitions and listening to musical and elocutionary items. In the course of the evening songs were sung by Mr. Mentor, duets by Colin and Frank Rule; recitations by Miss Pat Rowe, also elocutionary items by the Rev. Paterson who had to respond to a doubly encore. On behalf of the bible classes Colin Sherriff asked the Rev. Paterson to accept a monogrammed solid leather suit case. A presentation of a pair of motoring gloves on behalf of the juniors was made by Andrew Couits. The Rev. Paterson feelingly expressed his thanks. Mrs. Paterson was the recipient of a beautifully coloured Oriental vase, presented on behalf of those present by Thelma Bergin, and lan Paterson was presented with a book by Athol Patterson. A dainty supper was served There was a large attendance and a most enjoyable evening terminated with Vespers and the singing of “Blest be the Tie That Binds.” On Monday evening following the usual class for bible students held in the Rev. Paterson's study, Mr. Rule, on behalf of the students presented the minister with an inscribed walking stick. The Rev. Paterson feelingly returned thanks for the gift. On Saturday the Sunday School teachers and scholars entertained the Rev. and Mrs. Paterson at tea which was set. out on long tables in St. Paul's Hall. At the conclusion of lhe repast, 74r. Rule, on behalf of teachers and scholars, presented a tea wagon to the guests of honour as a little memento of their association with the Sunday school. A book was also presented to lan Paterson. The Rev. Paterson voiced his thanks for the gift and addressed the children. After tea games were enjoyed.
