TRADE WITH CANADA
NEW ZEALAND PRODUCTS EXTENSION OF AGREEMENT [Per Preus Association] WELLINGTON, July 22. In a statement issued to-day Hon. W. Nash, Minister of Customs, said that by mutual agreement between the Governments of Canada and New Zealand it had been decided that the existing trade agreement between the two countries be extended until September 30, 1937. The desirability of revising the agreement to ensure as far as possible an exchange of trade more equitable from the point of view of the Dominion is fully recognised by the Government and it is hoped to take steps in that direction before the expiry of the extended period now arranged. As has been intimated previously, the Government propose to give attention to the question of trade firstly with the United Kingdom, secondly with the British Dominions, and then with other countries. As soon as the position regarding trade with the United Kingdom has been finalised, attention will be directed towards the negotiation of a new agreement with Canada.
