HEWINS REMANDED | Per Press Association] NEW PLYMOUTH, July 23. William Ernest Hewins, who waf arrested in Sydney and subsequently charged with breaking and entering the premises of Lawrence Hedges, jeweller. New Plymouth, on May 28 and stealing jewellery valued at £333, was brought from Sydney under escort by Detective P. Kearney and reached New Plymouth last night. Accused appeared before Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. On the application of Detecthe Kearney a remand was granted till Wednesday next. No application v/a? made for bail.
