POLICE QUESTIONS
SECURING CONFESSIONS VICTORIAN CRITICISM AIELBOURNE, June 19. Strong criticism of the police system of obtaining confessions from accused persons and using them in evidence was uttered by the Chief Justice (Sir F. W. Alann). Stating that examination by the police of persons in custody inav be and often is carried to most undesirable excess, Sir F. Alann suggested that the powers of the police should be greatly curtailed.
