Meteorological Office, Wellington, Thursday, June 18, 4. p.m. General Situation.—A rather vigorous depression of the westerly type has been crossing the Dominion to-day, while an anti-cyclone extends from Australia over the North Tasman Sea on to the northern districts. Forecast. —Winds: Westerly at first north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, south-westerlies thence southwards and extending shortly over most of the Domiinon, -noderate to strong generally and of gale force at places. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough on the west coast and off shore south of Castlepoint, moderate north of Castlepoint but rising offshore. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong south-west winds with rather rough to rough seas. Weather: Changeable and squally, with showers in most districts. Hail probable on parts of the coastal areas of the South Island and snow on the ranges. Temperature* cold.
