The high level of imports which show an inercas-e over May of last year of £4,650,000 is equal to 7.2 per cent., the outstanding feature being the overseas trade returns for the past > month. The return sihows signs of improvement in the British export trade, especially in manufactured goods. Although the increase for five months of the current year is only £2,265,000 or 1.3 per cent, increase, the last month alone was £1,189,000, equal to 3.3 per ; cent. In re-export trade the increase last month was equal to 1.3 per cent. .
