WORKS COMMISSIONER EARL STANHOPE APPOINTED Received June 17, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, June 16. Earl Stanhope succeeds Mr OrmsbyGore as First Commissioner of Works. Earl Stanhope was formerly iu the Grenadier Guards, and served in the South African War and iu France, where he won the D. 5.0., AI.(A, and Legion of Honour. After the war lie became Parliamentary Secretary to the War Office, chairman of the Joint Substitution Board, Civil Lor i of the Admiralty, and Financial Secretary to the Admiralty. In 1929 he was made a Privy Councilor, and in 1934 a Knight of the Garter. He was Und?'•-Secretary for War in the National Government of 1931. Three years later l.e became Under-Secretary for Fore : gn Affairs.
