RUGBY Football matches have been few and far between here this season, which probably accounted for the good attendance at the junior fixture on Saturday, when Turakina defeated Bulls by 13 to 8, at Bulls. The ground was

in excellent order, and conditions were ideal for play. When the teams lined out it was seen that the visitors were considerably heavier than the locals, and a one-sided game was anticipated. The Bulls lads, however, held their opponents well, and an interesting and fast game was witnessed, the scores just about indicating the merits of the two teams. Turakina faced tho sun and kicked off, Bulls attacking, and the magpies forcing twice. Turakina ,by means of long kicks, transferred play to the other end, where Cole ws robbed of the ball and Rutherford crossed for an easy try, which J. Lane converted. Tufakina 5, Bulls 0. Campbell set the blacks in attack, and combined play by Ellery, Stantiall and Carthy saw the latter round off a pretty movement with a try, which Cole converted. Bulls 5, Turakina 5. Give and take play followed until Gosney dribbled through to Bulls line, but a force re- > suited ,and scores were unchanged at I half-time. I Turakina backs soon got going, but Rutherford kicked too hard, and Bulls 1 forced. Long kicks were in t-he blacks’ favour, until Rutherford again broke away and ran strongly, but Cole grassed him in time. Magpies continued to press, and Gabites attempted to pot, but missed, Bulls forcing. Lane had a penalty kick, but failed. From a scramble Whale dived across for Lane to goal. Turakina 10, Bulls 5. Shortly after a black infringed in front of the home posts, and Lane again raised the flags. Turakina 13, Bulls 5. On resuming, play hovered in midfield, where Cole took a penalty shot and landed a fine goal. Turakina 13, Bulls 8. The blacks tried hard to equalise, but failed to penetrate, and in the dying stages the magpies held the up1 per hand, but no further score TeI suited. Air. W. Larsen refereed. For the winners, Gabites (who at one time played for Bulls seniors) was a tower of strength, and was well supported by Rutherford. The best of th« Bulls players were Carthy, Goodall, Harford and Campbell, but all worked hard against great odds.
