BLUER MARKET
OPTIMISM THE KEYNOTE LONDON, June 14. A notable exception to the apathetic condition of the comiuc-dities market is that of butter, the price of which Sharply appreciated, owing to speculative and general buying. The Continent has failed to augment the seasonal supply and decreases of Empire arrivals are low and retain their prices. This is due to intense competition, strengthened by the demand creating an extra strain on supplies. Prices developed some irregularity towards the week-end owing to profittaking, but optimism is the keynote of the trade, especially as cold store stocks are believed to be but little altered during the last fortnight. Normally these stocks tend to increase at this time of year. The Bank of New South Wales has received a cablegram from its London office, June 13, as follows:—Butter: Ills per cwt.
