COMMENTS ON LOCAL GAMES j Last Saturday’s games were played A in ideal weather, and some fit.e games were witnessed. Glencoe played a game ‘‘out of the box’’ to beat McKenzie’s by 20 to 6. McKenzie’s did not expect to win against this team, but they vertainly did not expect such a big score against them. Glencoe’s crack goalie, Miss Rowntree, had a great day, playing first-class basketball and notching just on threequarters of the points for her side. Her goal-throwing was excellent and a finer exhibition has rot been seen in Wanganui this season. Excellent support was given this player bv Misses Scarl and Caldwell. The centres of this team were in first-clacs order, the two Misses Gudby being, if anything, ,-.st a little behind Miss Bose. Miss Dawson and Miss Meade played well and so did Miss Tabrum, but the lastnamed has the fault of over-guarding on a number of occasions. Miss Wakeling and Mis.< Gould were perhaps the pick of McKenzie’s. Others who played well for th s team were Misses Stokes’, Payne, Scott, O’Keeffe, and the two Misses Spurdie The Y.M. Club beat K?a Ora in a game whrch was very even. Y.M. just getting home by one goal. One of Kia Ora’s goalies was bv no means fit for play on Saturday, but like the good sport she is would not give in. This team showed marked improvement in their passing and at times it was excellent. Miss Mackie was the pick of the defenders, while Mi?s iSandersoa Miss Cairncross also played well. Hn the centre third there was very

little difference between Misses Granville, Parnell, and BarretL The forwards all played hard and keen basketball, their passing being srdendid. For Y.M. Club it must be said that they showed a great improvement in comparison with their play of the previous week. Their defenders wore hard workers, the playing of Misses Scott, Hargreaves and Lockheart in this game being of a high-class ordev The goalies are inclined to be a bit slow in their movements, and they need to make their passing mure snappy. Nevertheless, Misses Holt, Paterson, and Nickleson played well. This team took the “brakes off” right from the start and never let up until the final whistle. Nga Toa beat Y.M. Gym in a game | in which Nga Toa were favoured with I rhe luck of the day. Y.M. nad the misI fortune to lose their champion goalie, who, while •cycling to the g.vunds, met with an accident, her machine skidding in the loose metal near Guyton Street corner, Although not serious it stopped her from taking her place in the team, thus spoiling the combination of Misses O’Hara and McFarlane Had this player been available perhaps a different story would have been told. Nevertheless, Nga Toa must bo given full credit for their win as they played a splendid game. Their defence was excellent. Miss Bosemcrgy again being outstanding. Miss Stitt and Miss Ching I played very well, the former repeatedly | intercepting passes. For the centres, Misses Watson, Bishop and McKillop left nothing to chance, and they shot the ball about in really good style. Although Miss Barnes was not up to her usual standard she played well, being responsible for more than oalf of the goals whivh her side obtained. She j was well supported by Miss Elston and Miss Sullivan, who are always keen players. Y.M.’s goalies were, on the day. all at sea, and in the first half worked overtime to help their reserve player, who took Miss Robertson’s place. As was only to be expected, they could not keep this pace up for the whole game. Miss O’Hara’s overkeenness cost her side at least four easy chances of a shot at goal. Miss Gleeson and Miss Garth played well at centre, but Miss Whilliams was not nearly as good as she generally is. This player is reallv outstanding when she is on her game. Miss Underwood was the pick of Y.M.’s defenders. Miss Marshall and M ; sc Meyer running her close.
