REGENT THEATRE
“THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL” “Toe Scarlet Pimpernel” leaves a critic vainly groping for superlatives, longing to find one that has not beeu lessened in \alue by its misuse in advertisements. For this new Alexander Korda production, to commence a return season to-day at the Regent Theatre, is unquestionably the finest British picture of this or any other year, and probably deserves the prize for the best film* produced anywhere during 1934. It merits superlatives of the highest value. Leslie Howard is Sir Percy Blakeney to the life. The rest of the cast is extremely competent •—Merle Oberon is a delightful Lady Blakeney, Nigel Bruce a realistic Prince Regent, and Raymond Massey, sinister but real, ideally cast as the villain Chauvelin. “When Knights Were Bold” Jack Buchanan’s first “World Standard” production, •’When Knights Were Bold.” will be Saturday’s attraction at the Regent Theatre. In this production, his latest, and undoubtedly his greatest screen success, audiences will see Jack Buchanan in a film alter his own heart, for he was given free reign in the selection of the stc-ry. As a light-hearted young army officer, who 'inherits a title and an estate, also a very dignified and straigfrt-laced family, Jack has limitless scope to reveal his great versatility in the many scrapes and difficult situations that inevitably result when a very modern young man of today comes in contact with a stately family who dwell in the realms of yesterday. WHY SUFFER FROM PILES? “Zann’ will cure this distressing complaint. Send ninepence in stamps for generous trial treatment. Zann Proprietary, Box 952 N., Wellington.— Advt.
