War-Free World Sought By Union of British Youth
LONDON. —First public meeting or the newly formed Peace Council or British Youth Organizations met here 1 recently to “voice the demand of the rising generation, irrespective of political, religious or other opinion, for it world freed from the fear of war.” The council aims to co ordinate the efforts for peace of Britain’s youth societies and organizations, and to inspire the holding of similar meetings in other parts of the country. The purpose of the council, in the opinion of Air B. Goldstone, representing the National Council of Young Liberals, “is to show that there is a better way of solving any given pro blem than that of war, and a belter way of maintaining liberty than that of tyranny .... There is too much to do in the world to allow a single life to be lost in war.” Proof of the practicability of the council’s aim at co-ordination was furnished at this meeting.by the presence on the platform of speakers holding widely divergent political views and confessedly having little in common apart from their determination to work for peace. Speakers ranged in political colour from a National Conservative member of Parliament to a member of the Young Communist League. To further its efforts toward a world freed from war, the council plans a national peace day for Britain during the first week in June. It will also take part in the International Youth Peace Congress, to be held at Geneva during August. A woman driver ran into another car and bent a wing. Lt worried her. Ho she went to a garage and asked the mechanic:— “Can you repair this wing so that my husband won’t know it has been bent?” The mechanic looked at the bent wing and then at the woman. “I’m afraid not, madam,” he said. “But I can fix it up so that in a few days you can ask your husband how ho bent itl ”
