TAIHAPE

WRESTLING. FORSGREN v. ELLIOT. I —— Jack Forsgren, the Canadian wrestler who competed against Earl McCready in the sensational Empire title match at Wellington on Monday night, will meet King Elliot, formerly of Wanganui, in a professional heavyweight match at Taihape on Wednesday night (Alay 27). New Zealand wrestling owes much to the impetus it has received from Canadian wrestlers in the past, but Forsgren has done so well since he arrived in the Dominion that he is likely to carry this influence further still. He has all the qualities, physical and otherwise, of a really great, wrestler and has proved in America' that he is able to get results. He is 1 invariably in strict training and always takes the ring in the pink of condition, while his ring tactics are such that there are endless thrills for the spectators. Elliot, who was formerly a policeman al Wanganui, is well known in New Zealand, but this season he is much better fitted to perform well against the overseas men than he has been at any previous stage. Since the -last season closed he has been on the Pacific Coast of America where he had about 50 matches, winning threequarters of them against very strong opposition. In addition, the Americans, who are the most exacting critics in the world, liked his performances, and always gave him a good hearing. He is fully a stone heavier than he was last year but has lost nothing of his speed. In addition he has nany new tricks in his bag and showed his quality in his first match by scoring a win over the formidable “Cowboy” Russell. The amateur bouts will include a special challenge match between AVally Ross (Kpeke) and Tommy Thompson. Also H. Jones v. Bert Brown. NGAWAKA ROAD A meeting of Ngawaka settlers was held in the Rangitikei -County office recently to consider a proposal a proposal to metal the Ngawaka Road which joins the main road at Opaea. The meeting was very much in favour of the pro-posal and it was loft to the county engineer (Air. S. A. ATair) to finalise the preliminary negotiations. In order to defray the cost of metalling, a loan will have to be raised, and the settlers concerned will be rated. A subsidy of £l for £1 will probably be provided by the Public Works Department. THE MAJESTIC “THE WHITE COCKATOO.” A melo-dramatic murder mystery thriller guaranteed to send chills creeping up and down the spine comes to the Majestic Theatre to-morrow under the ’ title of “The White Cockatoo.” This 5 new Warner Bros, drama, unlike most ’ mystery plays, accentuates the romance angle very strongly. Au American engineer, aided by a cockatoo, finally 2 solves the killings and other mysterij ous happenings in the spooky French hotel.
