Mussolini already was fortifying Dumeira Island, opposite Perim, commanding the Red Sea route to Australia. There was still time for the League to act as the rains would make the Italian task of subjugating the bulk of Abyssinia before September impossible. NO FEARS NOW SANCTIONS EXTENSION ITALY AND THE LEAGUE TAIT ACCOMPLI IN ABYSSINIA LONDON, May 7. The Rome correspondent of The ■Times says it is virtually certain that Signor Mussolini will present the T/eague of Nations with an accomplished fact in an Abyssinian annexation. The Dace is expected to announce the annexation after meetings of Cabinet and the Fascist Grand Council on May 9. It is not yet definite whether King Victor Emanuel wi.i be proclaimed Emperor. Settlers for New Colony Signor Virgin io Gayda, writing in the Giornale d’ltalia, confirms a report that a large proportion of Italian soldiers will remain in Abyssinia as colonists, and says that thousands of volunteers, including doctors, engineers, and technicians, as well as peasants, are prepared to settle. Hignor Mussolini addressed 209,000 women who assembled in the Piazza Venezia carrying banners declaring << Our children belong to you.” Tn response to tremendous cheering. Signor Mussolini declared that the victory was large!v due to the women n.akng every Italian family a fortress to resist sanctions. Signor Alu.-solini has sent his financial adviser, Signor Pirelli, to London. The city is watching his activities with interest, as, though it is denied that Rome is seeking a loan, there is no other apparent reason for t’he visit.
