I ! l’h e second of the season’s classics, the One Thousand Guineas, was decided on the fourth day of the Newmarket first spring meeting to-day. and the result was:— One Thousand Guineas (A sweepstake with JOOOgns. added; second 10 per cent., and third f per Vent, of whole stakes; for 3 year-old fillies; Rowley Mile (1 mile). Won by one and a-half lengths, a neck between second and third, Feola is owned by His Majesty the King but is being raced |on lease by Lord Derby during the I period of Court mourning. The winner was bred by her cwtcr. and she is trained by Colledge Leader ?.t Newmarket. Tide-way. winner of the season’s first clasic for the fillies, is by Lord Derby’s St. Leger winner Fairway, a son of Phalaris and at present one of the most successful young sires in England. Pav I I p. winner of the Two Thousand Guineas last Wednesday, is another of Fairway’s gets. Tide-way. who is' a sister to Fairhaven, is described as a charming filly, perhaps a little light on the leg. but lev <‘l of back and of great quality. Her dam. Drift, was kicked at the post when contesting the One Thousand Guineas. having two ribs broken but then finishing fourth. Tineway had four raves last season and won two of them, the Fulbourne Stakes, 5 furlongs, at Newmarket on Julv 5. | beating Pay Up into second place, and I the valuable Ham (Produce) Stakes, (i I furlongs, at Goodwood on July 30 (her past start!, scoring easily 'v eight [lengths. With 8.13 in the Free Handicap she was second filly in the list, precede<l only by Sansonnet, 9.L The ! King s filly .1* eoia did not win a race j last season, but she recently was successful in the Easter Handicap at Kempton Park. Ferrybridge won her last two of four starts last year, the [valuable Cheveley Park Stakes, 6 furpongs. at Newmarket, and the Theale i Plate. 5 furlongs, at Newnurv, both in [October. —“Rangatira.” in the Evenling Post.
