ON HAWERA TRACKS

BGMONT PREPARATIONS. TUEBDA Y ’S G A LLOPS. I’he llawfra tracks were rather busy ou Tuesday morning and a large number of Lgmont candidates were galloped or schooled, writes “ Childers’’ in the Hawcra Star. Fast work was done on the outside of the course proper, with the pvgs the usual distance out. The going was soft although not as holding as was the case last week. One Wnetu (Shield), Wotan (Button) and Le Grund (lluwei wore H‘‘sociated over seven furlongs in J. 35 1-5, 'finishing in that order at intervais oil two lengths. Oae Vthctu has progressed | most, satisfactorily since lacing at I’ci.ding. Le Grund is not a good track worker. 1 ricsland (Grylls) was not asked to do his best to finish half a length in front of Knockout (Monkleyj ovei half a mile in sHscc. Ai usual, Friesland worked boldly. Glenthawn (Howe) shaded Sujirenic Court (Sheild) over half a mile in 52 sec. Glenthawn invariably goes well on the tracks, but his efforts with tho colours up have been very moderate so far. Supreme Court, who is a hard huise to tiain, appears to haw gone off slightly. Advance Plane, (Sheild) coveied hall a mile unaccompanied in 52 3-ssec. For a similar distance Hunting La J (Sheild) occupied 55sec. He wont rather lazily. Aga Khan (Hawke) was a ncc-k in front of St. Clara with Corowu three > iengbhs further back at the close of sixfurlongs in 1.20 4-5 from practically a standing start. Aga Khan worked well and could have improved on this time. Corowa also pleased, for he is usually an atrocious track galloper. He was finishing strongly, after being several lengths behind the pair earlier. Beau Star (Grindlay) put plenty of dash into a gallop over a round in 1.55 1-5. He still works in his former tearaway style. Valroy (Monkleyj led Golden Rill (Cole) and Bio.ni (Howe) throughout five furlongs to finish two lengths ahead of Golden Rill, with Biorni a length further back in 1.6. This was a smart effort for a maiden, \:dr<., ( shaping really well for ho was not ex- , tended at the close. Among the Jumpers. Soloist. (Webby) ami Debut tonj were responsible tor one ot the best displays seen over the schooling , hurdles at. Hawera for n considerable . time. Both jumped fast and cleanly, although Debut was inclined to take his , fences a trifle high, owing, no doubt, to the fact that he had not schooled for some time previously. J. Fryer has this pair in line trim lot appic-aching ( engagements. Gopcy (Wcbbyj and Paaloff (Button) were sent out to cover a touml of the schooling hurdles, but a.t, the second fence Copey failed rise and fell j. heavily, flattening two of the fences. Although temporarily knocked out, R. }

S’ Callamost, who was entered for the 1 Adamson Steeples on the second day, ' is being given a brief let-up because or a cold. He will not be a runner next week. ’ i Aga Khan (Webby; shaped pleasingly I when he schooled over three hurdles yesterday morning. p ! S. Anderson will rid-e Corowa at Lb • i moot. EGMONT RACING CLUB THE STEEPLECHASE MEETING ACU I,l‘T A XUES T<» MOK Kt >W. ’ i The Lgmont Racing Club ’s winter I meeting will be held on ' Thursday and Saturday of next week, the fixture be- | ing the first in the winter campaign ; which later leads on to fire Ellersue, j Wanganui and Wellington gatherings. : Acceptances for all first-day events | are due to close at o’clock to-mor-I row night with the secretary, Mr. A. ; K. The number <»f New Zealand-bred horses raced in Australia during the , season was well up to that of the preceding year, which constituted a record, and the successes gained gave the Do- . minion's bloodstovk an attractive advertisement, writes ‘'Phaeton” in the N.Z.
