'lhe Paten Amateur Boxing Assoeia ‘Lion’s tournament on Monday evening was an outstanding success, and some good bouts were witnessed. The efficient manner in which the tournament was run was due to the untiring work of the officials and committee. Officials were as follow: —Referee Mr. R. W. Haddow; hon. timekeeper. Mr. G. Williams; gong, Mr. li). enden; announcer. Air. F Naismith; seconds. Messrs. C. Willis and J. Kel sen; Messrs. A. Gilmour and A. Carey supplied a programme of music during the bouts. Rumball, 11.4 (Tariki), v. D. fitness, 11.4 (Elfhani), three 2 minute bouts.— A good clean fight, brisk fighting by Rumball forcing Fitness to [cover-up on several occasions. 'The second round showed good two-handed fighting l>y both mon. Rumball scoring well with his right to gain the victorv. N. Christensen, 9.5 (Palmerston North i. v. I’. Tanner. 9.6 (Palea), three 2-minute bouts.—.A good bout spoiled by both men repeatedly bo ding. H Candy 10.0 (Oeo), three 2-minuie bouts, —Clean, open fighting was Ihe pleasing feature of this bout. Candy scoring well with his left. In the second round Wesley went down for the count of two from a well-timed right punch tc the jaw. Hard fighting by both men saw We'ley to advantage. He gained the decision. J. tilz.waier, S.S i Batea,. v. J, Norris, 9.2 (Palmerston North', three 2-minute bouts. - Both boys opened we I Norris forcing I - itzwater io cover up on several occasions. A good exchange of blows livened the bout somewhat. Norris was declared the winner. Peter Huzzilf (Tariki, v. E. Blake (Palmerston North).— Both men fought very hard, lluzz IT using his’right, to 'great advantage. Blake's footwork repeatedly saved him from punishment. HuzzifT’s hard hitting repeatedly broke through Blake’s guard. HuzilT was the winner. Foster appeared the most experienced boxer and both men gave a lively exhibition of good lighting, hard blows being exchanged. Gichard scored well with his left. J. Bavin. S.J2 (Palmerston North’-, v. A. Blair 9.0 (Patea), three. 2 minute bouts.—'Blair mounted up points with his straight lefts which repeatedlv broke through Lavin’s guard. Both bovs fought well. Blair gaining the decision with a very narrow margin oi ; points. Davies' Cup Challenge. Marshall, 11.4 (Elthani;. |\. Fitzwater, 10.3 (I’atea). six 3-minute rounds.—This was the main fight of the tournament and both men entered the ring looking very fit. In the second round Marshall, with the advantage of his extra weight, forced Fitzwater to the ropes on several occasions and hard hitting by both men saw the points even.
