SIR WALTER CARNCRO'SS FATHER OF PARLIAMENT’’ [ Per Press Association I WELLINGTON, April 7. .Sir Walter Carncross, Speaker of the Legislative Council, who recently celebrated his eighty-first birthday, became ill after the opening of the session last week, and has now entered a private hospital. Sir Walter is the “Father of Parliament,” for he has been continuously a member of either the House of Representatives or the Legislative Council since 1896. when he was elected member for Taieri. During his illness the Hon. J. A. Hanan will act as deputy-Speaker.
