FATAL COLLISION

HIGH SCHOOL PUPIL KILLED (Per Press Association. I DANNEVIRKE, April 7. While proceeding from Dnnnevirke alter school to his home at Papatawa, Claude William Burlace, .14, t>ou of William Leslie Burlace, was killed on a bridge on the main road near the Dai nevirke racecourse as a resu’t a collision with a motor-car driven by Thomas William Raymond rkerratt, representative of an oil company, residing at Masterton. Skcrratt was travelling to Dannevirke. Burlace, in company with two other high school pupils, apparently suddenly swerved into the oncoming car. The top of his head was crushed in, death bci>ur practically in st ant a neons.

The, death occurred in the \\ *ellin£ ton Hospital of Alfred Firman, whd was injured in a motor accident at Silverstream on March 21. At about .10 p.m. on that day a, motor-lorry was proceeding in a northerly direction and at a portion of the road where a washout had taken place a collision occurred with a five-seater car driven by Firman and proceeding in the opposite direction. Firman hit the right-aand front portion of the lorry. The motorcar was wrecked and Firman had his right arm broken in three places. After receiving medical attention ’was taken tn hospital. STRUCK BY ENGINE MAN FATALLY INJURED [ Per Pr„» Ae»oclatic». | TAURANGA, April 7. Mr. Roy Devon, aged 46, was fatally injured when he was struck by a goods train on the harbour bridge and hurled into the harbour. Air. Devon was walking across the bridge, and met the engine on a bend in the bridge. Before he had time to move he was struck. The accident was witnessed by several people, who went to Mr. Dexon’s assistance in boats. He was taken from the water and attended by Dr. Mark, who ordered his removal to hospital, but he died in the ambulance on the journey. Deceased received extensive injuries to his right shoulder and side. He is survived by his widow and parents, who live at Maketu.
