as the guests of the Taihape Ladivs Golf Club. “As far as the men’s tournament is concerned 1 would remind members rhat we cannot all win, but I am sure that every competitor will spend a most enjoyable two days,” declared the speaker who went on to thank Mr. H. A. Belk for the use of his property and paid a special tribute to Vac manner in which Air. Belk had grazed the links tu suit the Utiku Golt Club. It was entirely due to Ah’. Belk’s efforts in this direction that the links were in such good order (applause;. Air. Parkes thanked the committee fur the support in preparing the course for opening day, and specially referred to tne work of the green-keeper, Air. Alincbiu who had carried out his duties in a most praise-worthy manner, displaying great interest and enthusiasm in his work (applause;. “1 wish to Thank him on behalf of the committee for his splendid efforts,” added Air. Parkes who also paid a special tribute to the work of Air. Frank Kelly who had excelled himself in the gentle art of pushing the roller (laughter and applause). On behalf of the committee Air. Parkes presented Air. Kelly with a glass tankard as a small mark of appreciation of his efforts. Tne presentation was made amidst laughter and applause. After this pleasant little interlude Mr. Parkes declared the links open for plav and Miss Kelly, captain of the Utiku Ladies’ Golf Club, putted the first ball. A Canadian mixed foursomes competition was played over nine holos, the winners being Mrs. J. B. 'Lhomasen and A ('. Joblin who handed in « card of 41-12-29. J. P. Alortb.nd and Mrs. D.
