CHRISTIE CUP WANGANUI UNSUCCESSFUL MATCH WITH HAWKE’S BAY Hawke’s Bay defeated Wanganui at Napier ou Saturday last by 16 juatcUes to 8 iu the Christie Cup event. Wanganui did not get the best team away ou account of several of the top plavers being unable to travel. Only one of the Wanganui men won his singles, AI. L. Lampe. Three ot the Wanganui women were succcsslul, Aiiss Al. Purcell, Aliss Alargaret I’uiecll and Miss T. Greaves. Wanganui lost all the men’s doubles and all the women’s doubles. In the combined event Wanganui won two matches, Cox and Aliss Al. Purcell and O’Toole and Airs Richardson being the success ful pairs. It is the intention of the Hawke’s Bay Association to travel with the Christie Cup next year to A atrarapa and Wanganui in consideration of the fact that those two associations paid visits to Napier. Hubert Opperman and hi§ colleagues, Stuart and Alilliken, have a busy season ahead of them. Their first onslaught will be on Toseland’s 241-mile record from Perth to Bunbury and back (West Aust.) Following this little jaunt they will engage in a series of Continental road races with the bes of the West Australian professionals. Opperman was due to appear at the showground track, Sydney last Saturday night in a special invitation race of 30 laps, open to the thirty best road riders in Australia. Next Saturday a similar race is to be held on the same track.
