JUNIOR TOURNEY CONCLUDING EVENTS PLAY OF HIGH STANDARD The Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association’s junior tennis tourney, which was commenced on Saturday week, was concluded on Saturday afternoon un the Wanganui East Club’s courts. At the conclusion of the tournament the trophies were p.esented by Mrs G. H. I'ownall, wife of the president of the association. Mrs L’ownall’s work in connection with junior tennis was recognised when she was presented with a bouquet of flowers during the afternoon by the Wanganui Schools’ Tennis Association. The results were as follow: Girls (under It —Semi-finals; D. Dickie (Friends’ School) beat P. Pocknell by default; J. Luke beat P. Smythe, 7 —2. Final; D. Dickie beat J. Luke, 9 —3. Girls’ Doubles (under 18 years).— Semi-finals: E. McLean and R. Hewitt (Nga Tawa) beat J. Bolger and B. Sporle ((ionvent), 9—3; V. Bunny and J. Bell (Nga Tawa) beat J. Hogg and Rishworth (Nga Tawa), 9—6. Final: E. McLean and R. Hewitt beat V. Bunny and J. Bell, 9—2. Girls’ Singles (under J 8 years).— Semi-finals: E. McLean (Nga Tawa) beat L. Marshall (Girls’ College), 9—6; R. Hewitt (Nga Tawa) beat L. Mete Kingi (Girls’ College), 9—5. Final: E. McLean beat R. Hewitt, 9—7. The matches we e played under idea] I condtoins. The general standard of ■play in the tournament showed a great II improvement on last year’s event.
